Ho, the capital city of the Volta region, was hit by a flood on Saturday because of the excessive rain. A couple of Ho-Bankoe residents are predicting their losses after Saturday’s strong, continuous rains swamped stores and homes, ruining commodities and people’s possessions.

The areas downstream were affected by the late-afternoon downpour, which destroyed products and assets worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

In particular, the area around Ho Civic Center was affected by the four-hour-long rainstorm’s overflowing of bridges with strong currents and congested roads.

Some of the business owners in the affected areas attributed the damage to some large pipes that cross the bridge next to the shop. They claim that once the Ghana Water Corporation diverted part of its lines across the tunnel, flooding in the neighborhood started to occur.

They appealed with the authorities, asking what would happen if a life was lost the next time. We have already lost our property, the authorities need to handle this issue, they said.
