The tie for fifth place between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh would no longer be broken by a run-off, according to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee.

According to the committee, they arrived at this decision after Mr. Agyarko’s decision to leave the competition.

The run-off voting slated for Saturday, September 2, 2023, will no longer take place, according to a press release issued and endorsed by the committee’s chairman, Reverend Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, dated August 31, 2023.

Mr. Agyarko withdrew after the party said on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, that a voting system would be established to break the tie between him and Mr. Addai-Nimoh, both of whom ranked fifth in the recently concluded Super Delegates Conference.

In a statement released and signed by Mr. Agyarko on Thursday, August 31, 2023, he announced his withdrawal from the run-off and criticized the party for choosing a small group of people to represent the 955 voters who took part in the first round of voting to choose the five candidates for the November 4 presidential primary.

He claimed that the action is an obvious breach of the party’s policy and the rules for the Special Electoral College and is also an unlawful action that he cannot permit himself to be linked with.

The party claimed that using the National Council members to break the tie was done so to save money and time and that the committee is still committed to impartiality and openness in all parts of its work.

Upon Mr. Agyarko’s pullout, the committee announced that the following candidates would run in the election on November 4: Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
