Dominic Nitiwul, the defense minister, stated that terrorist threats to the nation were serious and that the government was committed to defending its citizens from this danger. He claimed that a lot of work was being done, particularly in the nation’s northern region, which neighbors various Sahelian nations.

According to Mr. Nitiwul, a large number of troops have been stationed there to protect the nation from terrorist threats.

He made this statement after UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs James Cleverly saw a counterterrorism performance by Ghanaian soldiers who had received counterterrorism training in the UK as part of a bilateral defense cooperation.

The soldiers received praise from Mr. Cleverly for their professionalism throughout the demonstration exercise. In order to increase the ability of the armed forces to protect the country’s security, he vowed that his nation will continue to provide more training drills of this nature.

The minister noted the importance of the relationship with the UK, adding, “I think it is a good thing that we get more of such assistance from across the world.”

In response to the question of whether Ghana would send troops to Niger as part of an ECOWAS mission after the sub-regional body’s one-week deadline for the coup leaders to restore constitutional rule in the country had passed, he said: “After the one-week we would seek the direction of the President on the way forward.
