In an unexpected turn of events for what was previously believed to be a major crime, the Ghana Police Service has successfully apprehended six people in response to a false complaint of a kidnapping of a student from Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, in Accra.

The group that has been captured consists of two adults, named Isaac Kissi Adjei, also known as Kofi Black, and Courage Teiko, also known as Timmy, and four minors, all of whom are PRESEC students.

A press statement from the Ghana Police Service on April 5 announced the arrest, which represented a major development in the case.

Faked Kidnapping of PRESEC Student

Reports regarding the purported abduction of a 17-year-old PRESEC student sparked the start of the investigation into this case. On March 28, 2024, the youngster was returning home from school when he was allegedly abducted, which caused a great deal of anxiety and worry.

As per the investigative report by the police, the intention behind this sophisticated deception was to demand a ransom of GHC 340,000.00 from the parents of the student, ostensibly to finance a trip abroad.

The story of the kidnapping turned out to be a well-planned ruse by one of the minors in order to extract money from his parents.

Together with the other prisoners, this carefully thought-out plot produced a successful first extortion of GH₵20,000.00 from the ransom amount that was initially asked.

The identities of the juveniles involved are kept confidential as the inquiry progresses, and in accordance with best practices, their families are kept informed and involved throughout.

This situation has brought attention to the skill of the Ghana Police Service in handling delicate issues, as well as the extent to which people will go in order to achieve their own goals.
